The Challenges of Staying on a
Diet
It is common knowledge that most people
who go on a diet fail. For one reason or another, these
individuals want desperately to lose weight and burn fat
but they find sticking to the diet an impossible task.
Without doubt, diets in general are hard to follow. People
have the best intentions but after a few days or one week,
they find the level of motivation
deteriorating.
The reasons why diets fail are many. For
instance, diets are hard to stick to because the person is not
really ready to lose weight, the food choices are miserable and
not exciting, and often, portions are too small. Regardless of
the reason, there are ways to lose weight on a diet, a plan
that a person can stick with to finally reach his or her goal
of weight loss.
For starters, dieting does start with the
mind, not the body. For a person to lose weight, he or she has
to be 100% dedicated to the plan chosen, knowing there will be
up and down times but in the end, the pounds will melt off.
Therefore, before anyone starts any type of diet, he or she
needs to make sure there is a level of commitment to succeed.
Otherwise, the dieter will be faced with
failure.
Another reason diets are hard to follow is
that many, especially fad diets, are complicated. Just reading
the theory and instructions is often enough to create some
level of discouragement. Then, fad diets are usually not
successful. Many of these so-called, new age or innovative
diets are actually harmful and even unsafe. Therefore, when
hearing about the newest and greatest fad diet, avoid
it.
Low calorie diets can work but they require
some changes in the foods being consumed. Many times, people
who choose a diet consisting of 1,000 to 1,500 calories feel
hungry all the time, which means they simply cannot stick with
it. However, if someone wants to go with a low calorie diet,
all he/she needs to do is choose foods that will create a
feeling of being full and foods considered satisfying. Fiber
for one is a great option, apples, grains,
etc.
Then, there is the challenge of staying on a
diet due to a lack of support. For someone within a family
being the only person who needs or wants to lose weight, it is
near impossible to succeed while doing it alone. Therefore, if
someone is working hard to drop pounds, it would be a great
option for the entire family to start a better eating plan. In
addition to the dieter getting rid of unwanted pounds, the rest
of the family will be learning to adopt a healthier means of
eating.
Finally, the fast pace that we all live in
today’s society also presents challenges in staying on a diet.
After all, with a fast food restaurant on every corner, it is
quicker, easier, and more convenient to simply grab a burger
and fries than to fix something at home to bring to work.
However, the thing people need to remember is that while
dieting, they do have to eat differently but over time, they
will find they feel better and actually prefer healthier foods.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with having a special treat
on occasion when those overwhelming cravings
appear.
