Being Realistic about Weight
Loss
Throughout
every type of media, millions of people hear all about miracle
diets, drugs, supplements, cures, etc. However, regardless of
the avenue a person takes in trying to lose weight, it is
important to choose one that will not only allow eating foods
that are enjoyed, but also plans that work for a person’s
specific lifestyle. Then, learning to eat the right way is what
it takes to lose weight.
Getting off unwanted pounds requires a person
to be realistic about expectations and processes, as well as
motivated to keep going when things get a little tough. Let us
face it that one of the basic pleasures of life is eating. Food
is all around, from the moment we awaken to the time we go to
bed, we are all surrounded by food in one way or another. Then,
we enjoy the different flavors, textures, spices, etc. A good
diet is going to understand this and create menus that provide
enjoyment in food but in a healthy way and one that will result
in weight loss.
With dieting, people will have a great day or
two, motivated and determined to succeed, and then suddenly,
they smell something, remember a meal, see a commercial, or
even have a bad day and the result is turning to food. Rather
than beat themselves up, people need to be realistic,
understanding and accepting that dieting comes with good and
bad days. Instead of giving up, the goal is to work through the
hard times and soon, there will be more good
days.
Another thing is that being realistic means
knowing that the amount of weight coming off will fluctuate. In
this case, someone may stick to a specific diet and in one
week, drop six pounds only to stay on the same diet the
following week and lose nothing. The key to success in losing
weight is to set up realistic expectations so there are no
surprises or disappointments. In return, people will become
more motivated to keep pushing forward to the final
goal.
Obviously, every person trying to lose weight
is going to be faced with challenges simply because life has
challenges. Therefore, someone who is trying to diet and going
through a divorce at the same time is going to have some ups
and downs based on pure emotion. A person interested in
dropping 20 pounds for an upcoming wedding is also going to
find it more challenging due to stress and
pressure.
In both situations, losing weight is very
possible but it would make more sense to get things in order
first in the case of divorce and starting months ahead of time
in the case of the wedding. Good planning goes a long way in
being successful with any diet. Then, being realistic that
setbacks are likely will help keep the person from feeling
frustrated, angry, or even defeated.
If a good diet is chosen, one that offers a
nice variety of food and one that satisfies, then the person
has a much better chance of success. Therefore, while being
realistic is vital to any diet, it also involves making wise
choices from the beginning. Of course, if one diet does not
seem to be providing any results, then a person might one to
try something else until the right diet plan is
found.
